last day in the mothershirt.

what started as a fairly androgynous garment has now been engulfed by both my physicality and mind and i now identify with the shirt on a level beyond gender- it is now a two week old piece of material full up on day to day living. there are threads of discomfort for when the mothershirt was just being too motherly but there are just as many threads for when the mothershirt was the bees knees by the beach.

long live the mothershirt!

for my second last day in the mothershirt i decided to wear the mothershirt with shorts. it was a blast in the summer sun and i was totally island vibes. in fact all the other surfers who saw me when i pulled up in the parking lot were like “whoah maan, what island are you from’?”‘

i wonder what kind of animal i would have to have caught and skinned to make the mothershirt?

today i think it was a blue and white striped buck- yesterday it was a blue and white striped bird.

heck, catching and skinning animals for clothes is so good for the earth.

another day spent in the mothershirt.

the influence the shirt has on my mind depending on the days activities was made apparent to me. the morning was spent doing some creative things- for arguments sake i shall declare them feminine “äctivities”. the afternoon was spent surfing- “male”. it is no surprize then how the mothershirt was able to adapt to the duality of my day- im sure this is because the mothershirt does not influence me, rather i influence the mothershirt.

so i have been in this shirt now for ten whole days and i am happy to declare that to wear the same clothes every day sure makes sense. it is a practical and time saving decision. it would be radical if it was the norm to claim a few select garments of clothing and commit to them so that over time they become more like you than a stick of technology ever could. the garment would smell like you, look like you, move like you.

clothes must be owned by the owner- an intergration between craft/material and body that serves the holy service of dress.

today was the first day i woke up and did not want to wear my mothers shirt. not because it has an off putting aroma, nor because i have grown tired of my mother. i did not want to wear it today because i wanted to feel like a lumberjack, not like a weak lumberjack. i wanted to feel like i could chop down a tree with a pocket knife- and i a females shirt just wont give me that sort of power now would it?

Androgyny is derived from the Greek for both man and woman and is ultimately the mixture between male and female characteristics.

androgyny is ultimately the true gender due to the reality that it takes a man and a woman to procreate and produce a feotus that develops both male and female genitals until one overpowers the other and then results in a newborn baby powered by the concoction of male and female hormones and chemicals that make for life. that Y chromosome that women are given is the truly mystical part of this all- and is this Y the power behind womanly intuition etc.

David Bowie is a cultural icon of androgyny and i dig David Bowie- his one eye’s pupil is permanently dilated while the other remains normal and has been so ever since he was punched in the eye by his friend over a girl. David is also a feral romantic and feral romantics are wonderfully androgynous and maybe thats why my mothers shirt makes me feel like David Bowie

THE WEEKEND + DAY 7

Jung has the term ‘anima’ which he uses when referring to the unconscious and repressed female aspects of a mans personality.

As the division between male and female is not determined by our genitals- we are born with both female and male sex hormones- we are forced to make the division based on cultural perceptions. and those are all over the place.

women rebelled by wearing pants in the second world war and high heels originate from the manliest of medieval knights. can material and fabric really be a powerful force in enforcing a desired division between male and female.

was my shirt made for women in 1983 and then remade for men in 1990 and then remade for women in 1994 and then remade for men in 1999?

DAY FOUR

Today was a mellow time inside of my mother’z shirt. T’was ultra convenient to wake up and put the same shirt on- like a lost luxury from school. i might wear it til i die. i even went for a surf and wore it over my wetsuit and all the other zurfers were like “whoah, rad shirt dude”. i heard them say that as i pulled in to a no hand barrel sent from the deep oceans way out tharr. it now smells like sea.

DAY THREE

today was the first day that i was concious of the many different scents that my mothers shirt has trapped. although not at all bad yet, it is certainly developing a character. i did not do much moving around today so the baginness did not bother me- however when walking outside in the wind i found that the extra metre of fabric caused some some hassle.

no thoughts yet on anything gender related.
